MATES ON A MISSION...
Brad & Mitch...2 mates...2700 kilometres...1 epic quest
One long, straight road from Adelaide to Perth.
As a tribute to his mate Mitch and motivated by compassion, Brad Ellis left Adelaide on May 16th and rode his bike to Perth to raise funds for Project Seraya.
The tour was the culmination of months of training, hours of planning and many nights of dreaming. It was Brad's ambition to prove that a regular, everyday bloke could achieve something that most people would think crazy or impossible. He did not have the luxury of huge corporate sponsors or a high profile but what he did have was determination and grit...and of course, he had the memory of Mitch to guide, encourage and inspire.
Mitch was a passionate Adelaide Crows supporter and as such Mates on a Mission departed from Adelaide mid-May. Travelling an average of 150kms per day, Brad spread the "compassion" message all the way across the Nullarbor, through the Goldfields arriving in Perth to a hero's welcome on Saturday June 7th. Bullcreek Leeming Amateur Football Club hosted a welcome home finale befitting this epic journey.
Brad Ellis' efforts were humbling and inspiring. He quietly but methodically achieved what he set out to do and in the process gained the admiration and respect of everyone who crossed his path.
However the people of Seraya, many miles away, are the big winners. All money raised is being used for housing, installation of water to a central point in villages and the purchase of fishing boats used to sustain many local families.
Profile: Brad Ellis
Motivation: "I think about Mitch every day. This ride, every single pedal, is driven from the love of a huge group of people for Mitch. It's my way to let him know how much he is missed and what a great mate he was. We all walked taller when Mitch was here. I know he will be there pushing us along the Nullarbor all the way to Perth, so we can continue to change lives in Bali."
